Coconut Bowls is more than just a brand - we’re a movement for global sustainability.
Beyond our sustainable materials, production, packaging and shipping, we’re committed to sustainable social and economic practices. We believe the privilege of doing business means actively investing in our planet.
On July 1st 2019 - Coconut Bowls became a verified member of 1% for the planet. We’re part of a global community and that means contributing to positive change. Our responsibility is to ensure we have a positive impact on people and the planet at every step of the Coconut Bowls journey.
Our values of health, sustainability and community are an important part of everything that we do and the best part, they were inspired by you. By creating products with purpose, we are able to do well by doing good for both people and the planet. With open arms and minds we encourage acceptance, positivity and openness at all times.
To replace plastic with natural products and in doing so inspire a healthy and sustainable lifestyle. We’re a goal oriented bunch of coconuts and like the coco tree we aim high. By 2025 we’re aiming to have; 10,000 cafes and 3 million households swapping single use plastic for all natural products, 100 jobs created for artisans in rural Vietnam, $500,000 donated through 1% for the Planet, and 10 million people part of Coco Community.
Every year billions of coconuts are harvested for their water and white meat - unfortunately 99% of coconut shells go to waste. We reclaim these waste coconut shells and turn them into a resource. We also source small pieces of wooden offcuts and work with local artisans to handcraft them into our spoons, forks, knives and chopsticks leaving next to no waste behind!
Through our partnership with Cool Effect, we offset all of the carbon created from shipping our products from the farm to your front door. By choosing to have localised warehouses in our major business regions we are able to transport Coconut Bowls by sea rather than air. While it takes longer to arrive, the carbon emissions from ocean freight are minuscule compared with air freight.
To us social sustainability starts with our connection to real people. We are committed to paying our artisans a minimum of 30% above ETI base code, creating healthy working spaces and ensuring gender equality. Stability, equality and safety at work are not privileges, they are the foundation our business has been built upon.
We use sustainable packaging, reusable boxes, recyclable and compostable paper in all our packaging. Our Coco Community can rest assured that when they’re unboxing our products the experience is never tarnished by excessive amounts of non-recyclable, environmentally endangering single use plastics. From our farms to our factories, and all the way to your kitchen, we invite you on our journey to becoming 100% plastic free.
By becoming a Certified B Corporation we’ve joined a global movement of people harnessing the power of business, to turn profits and growth into positive impact for employees, communities, and the environment.
